E-mail Archiving Stupidity

I live in the Dallas area, but not in the city of Dallas. That means my children were outside the horribly mis-managed Dallas schools, but we're still under the thumbs of idiotic Dallas County officials. How idiotic? How about this recent story, “E-mail Deletion Plan Criticized,” about officials wanting to delete e-mail after 90 days. Have none of them heard of all the new regulations about e-mail archiving?

While my precognition skills aren't perfect (I have yet to win a Lottery), I certainly agree with the skills shown by Mike Elgan in his ComputerWorld article “Why Netbooks Will Soon Cost $99.” It first ran on Halloween, so will this be trick or treat?

Ferris Research, the mail and messaging specific research group, made plenty of noise not long ago when they said there will be 40 trillion (with a T) spam messages sent this year. They can predict fairly accurately, since 30 trillion spams went out last year.
